Pronoun (সর্বনাম) কী?
Noun বা Noun Phrase-এর পরিবর্তে যে সমস্ত Word ব্যবহৃত হয়, তাকেই Pronoun বলে। বাক্যে একই নাম বারবার ব্যবহার করার ক্লান্তি দূর করতে এবং শ্রুতিমধুরতা বাড়াতে Pronoun ব্যবহার করা হয়।
Pronoun-এর প্রকারভেদ (Types of Pronoun)
পরীক্ষায় প্রায়শই কোনো একটি শব্দ দিয়ে জানতে চাওয়া হয় এটি কোন ধরনের Pronoun। নিচের চার্টটি খুব ভালো করে খেয়াল করো:
| Pronoun-এর ধরন | কাজ বা সংজ্ঞা | উদাহরণ (Examples) |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Personal Pronoun | ব্যক্তি, বস্তু বা মালিকানা বোঝাতে। | I, you, she, he, it, we, they |
| 2. Demonstrative Pronoun | নির্দিষ্ট কোনো কিছুকে নির্দেশ করতে। | This, that, these, those, such |
| 3. Interrogative Pronoun | সরাসরি প্রশ্ন করার জন্য। | Who, which, what, whom |

পরীক্ষার জন্য অতি গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ‘Golden Rules’
এডমিশন এবং চাকরির পরীক্ষায় সবচেয়ে বেশি প্রশ্ন আসে নিচের এই রুলসগুলো থেকে:
Rule 1: Subjective vs Objective Form
বাক্যের Subject-এর স্থানে সর্বদা Personal Pronoun-এর Subjective form (I, we, he, she, they) বসে এবং Object-এর স্থানে Objective form (me, us, him, her, them) বসে।
Example: It is he (not him) who did it. / She likes him (not he).
Rule 2: ম্যাজিক নাম্বার ২৩১ এবং ১২৩ (Sequence of Pronoun)
বাক্যে যখন একাধিক Person একসাথে বসে, তখন তাদের সাজানোর নিয়ম:
- সাধারণ ক্ষেত্রে (ভালো অর্থে): 2nd Person + 3rd Person + 1st Person (231)। যেমন: You, he and I are present.
- দোষ স্বীকার বা অপরাধের ক্ষেত্রে: 1st Person + 2nd Person + 3rd Person (123)। যেমন: I, you and he are guilty.
Rule 3: Pronoun নাকি Adjective? (সতর্কতা!)
Demonstrative (This, that), Distributive (Each, every) বা Interrogative (Which, whose) শব্দগুলো যদি কোনো Noun-এর ঠিক আগে বসে তাকে Modify করে, তবে সেগুলো কিন্তু আর Pronoun থাকে না, Adjective হয়ে যায়!
Example: This is my pen (Pronoun). / This pen is mine (Adjective).
Rule 4: Reflexive vs Emphatic Pronoun
- বাক্যের Subject ও Object একই ব্যক্তি হলে তা Reflexive Pronoun। যেমন: He killed himself.
- কিন্তু কোনো Noun/Pronoun-এর ঠিক পরে বসে বাক্যে জোর প্রদান করলে তা Emphatic Pronoun। যেমন: I myself did the work.
Rule 5: Distributive Pronoun & Verb Agreement
বাক্যের শুরুতে Each, either, neither থাকলে তা সব সময় Singular সাবজেক্ট হিসেবে গণ্য হয় এবং এর পরবর্তী Verb-টি সব সময় Singular Verb হয়।
Example: Each of the boys has (not have) come.
Rule 6: Reciprocal Rule (each other নাকি one another?)
পারস্পরিক সম্পর্ক বোঝাতে:
- ঠিক ২ জনের মধ্যে বোঝালে each other বসে।
- ২ জনের অধিক মানুষের মধ্যে বোঝালে one another বসে।
Example: The two sisters love each other. / The boys helped one another.
Rule 7: Antecedent Rule (Most VVI)
Relative Pronoun-এর ঠিক পূর্বে যে Noun বা Pronoun বসে তাকে ‘Antecedent’ বলে। Relative Pronoun-এর পরবর্তী Verb-টি সব সময় এই Antecedent অনুযায়ী নির্ধারিত হয়।
Example: It is I who am (not is/are) responsible. (এখানে ‘I’ হলো Antecedent, তাই Verb ‘am’ হয়েছে)।
Rule 8: Possessive-এর কিছু জটিল নিয়ম
- বাক্যের সাবজেক্ট যদি One হয়, তবে তার Possessive রূপ সর্বদা One’s হবে (His/Her নয়)। যেমন: One should do one’s duty.
- Everyone, Someone, Anyone ইত্যাদি শব্দের ক্ষেত্রে Traditional Grammar অনুযায়ী Possessive হিসেবে His/Her বসে।
- যেকোনো Noun, Gerund বা শরীরের অঙ্গপ্রত্যঙ্গের নামের পূর্বে সব সময় Possessive Adjective (my, our, his, her, their) বসে।
- Collective Noun-এর স্বাভাবিক Possessive হলো Its; তবে মতভেদ দেখা দিলে (Noun of Multitude) তা Plural হয়ে Their বসে।
